Game Management Unit 66 - Lake City Our oldest permitted use area for GMU 66 is the Gunnison National Forest, located 9 miles east of Lake City on Road 788 - just at the summit of Slumgullion Pass. Our base camp is in the area of Deer Lakes and Mill Creek. Elevation reaches up to 12,750 feet and the hunting is in remote country where the terrain requires access by horses. This is a very limited area as far as 4x4 use is concerned. This permit is a 56 contiguous mile area where there is a lot of open country above timberline. We range from Rambuoillet Park over to Cannibal Plateau, Brush Creek, Devils Lake, Calf Creek Plateau and into the Powderhorn Wilderness. The elk and mule deer herds are at home in the tundra, dwarf willows and pine. The fishing is great and the photo opportunities are award winning! This is one of our trophy areas for bulls and timberline bucks. Our success rate is good for this rugged of a hunt and vast amount of country. Beginning in 2005 we will be offering "wilderness only" hunt packages - Also located in GMU 66. This area is totally restricted from any motorized use. A real dream come true for many outdoorsmen. All elk and deer licensed must be drawn for by application fist week in April. |

Game Management Unit 65 - Big Cimarron Ridge/Silverjack GMU 65 is in the Uncompahgre
National Forest, just about half an hour southeast of Montrose in the Big
Cimarron area. Prime elk, mule deer and black bear country. We utilize
Uncompahgre BLM and private ground as well as a high country forest permit.
Elevations for this area range from 8,000 to over 11,500 feet. Here we have drop camps in remote areas for those who like to "get away" from everybody else and do their own thing. We also have the Little Big Horn Lodge with an electrically heated bunkhouse, hot showers and family-style meals. A short distance up the road from the Lodge we have leased small private cabins where you sleep and relax, but still enjoy the company of others in a main cabin while gathered to share stories and meals. The high country guided hunts are very popular where we pack in on horses and mules and enjoy a more mountain-man type atmosphere. At these camps, you just hunt and relax. We do all the work. Just minutes down the road from Little Big Horn Lodge is our own private land overlooking the Big Cimarron River and High Mesa. Scattered with native grasses, oak, sagebrush, aspen trees and a small pond stocked with Rainbow trout, this is home to many of our hard working horses and mules. We use this as out main base and our guests are welcome to fish, hunt, or just kick back and enjoy the scenery. Our success rate in area 65 is very high, and we have harvested some tremendous bulls and bucks as well as large bear.
We also offer GMU 65 private land only elk and deer hunts on one of Colorado's last big ranches. Accommodations provided by Little Big Horn Lodge, or you can arrange for lodging in Ridgway. Hunt packages include guided service (2:1), game retrieval and transportation. Price with lodging at Little Big Horn Lodge $5,000. If you decide to stay in Ridgway, price is $4,500. Little Big Horn Lodge packages includes hot meals, hot showers, electric heat rooms, and great camaraderie! |

Game Management Unit 64 - Black Canyon/Coffeepot Ridge A large portion of our private ground acreage is in GMU 64. These are hunts and rides we do with permission from private landowners. We only provide fully-guided hunt packages for this area. These private land parcels are adjacent to the Black Canyon National Park, which is one of Colorado's major attractions. The Gunnison River cuts its way down through the Black Canyon and it's really spectacular gorge. Along the rim of this magnificent canyon is where a lot of mule deer, elk, black bear, bobcat and mountain lion call home. The elk and mule deer fatten on the hay fields of the neighboring ranches. For big game licensing purposes, GMU 65 first rifle elk licenses are also valid in GMU 64, and vice versa. Deer license are the same way for 2nd and 3rd rifle seasons. Area 64 is for our trophy buck hunts primarily, although elk are quite prevalent, also. We use this private land in conjunction with our permitted use in the BLM and forest to assure our clients of the best possible chance of filling their licenses and having the time of their life doing it.
